...Seriously - if people are so entirely upset by what we're doing here, they should look for a place that suits them better. ...
This has been written by George Oates, a member of the flickr staff.
Tenthousands of posts have been written about censorship. I'm tired of reading all this again and again. Everything has been said already but not from everyone ;-)
Tenthousands of users are upset. Flickr isn't really responding. But flickr still partly lock out a lot of customers. Many collateral damages (like Swiss and Austia). Flickr doesn't give a shit on it. They actually delete critical comments. And this can't be explained by some local laws in some countries. They want to muzzle some people.
Even German authorities are saying that flickr is over reacting on the German legal situation with their censorship of pictures. I can't say anything about the situation in Singapore, Hong Kong or Korea.
I don't suffer from the censorship here at flickr. My pictures are all safe. I didn't miss anything I want to see because of the censorship until the first of my contacts left or stop posting. But I want to decide what I want to see. And I definitively can't agree with their way how they treat me and all others with disrespect.
The quintessence of flickr's behaviour is written in a comment of their staff I show you above. This is a slap in the face! They don't give a shit on their paying customers. I am upset (and justifiably so IMHO) - I looked for a place that suits me better - and I think I found it, at least because of so many old friends I met there. I think this is what fickr wants. "Let's get rid of tenthousands of dissatisfied users and the rest won't see any problems anymore."
Resist the beginnings! Nip it in the bud!
I don't feel comfortable here anymore because of the flickr staff and flickr's or yahoo's policy. This is not the place I want to support with my work anymore. It's a pity for all the nice people here.
Many of my friends and contacts don't show up here anymore. Like me they were looking for some other places and many of them are reassembling somewhere else.
I have been looking around for a while and I think I will follow them. I'm not going to delete my flickr account yet like many others already did. This is their way to show their protest. I don't think that anything will change when I delete my account. So why don't use it until it expires? I paid for it. They have my money anyway. The only one who will lose in this situation is me. And I already lost a lot of friends here. So I will use my account to keep in touch with all my other contacts and friends who don't see a reason or are not willing to leave this inhospitable place. Don't get me wrong! It's not about the users. The community of users is awesome. I met a lot of really great and talented people. But the people running this page are insane. Just my opinion.
And flickr never can fix what's already broken. Even if they abolish all restrictions. Call it insurmountable differences.
