The thing they call progress (DSC9056)

The thing they call progress (DSC9056) by Shutterhack.
The centre of the oil industry in the peninsular is in fact situated in Kerteh, just a little further up from Kijal. (heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Kuantan). The gigantic, some would even say - monstrous structures seem to be a bit of a shock for unsuspecting drivers enjoying the tranquillity of the coast.

In a corner, not far lies a small fishing village hidden in the shadows of the great, big conundrum of activities happening around.. Seemingly unperturbed by this intrusion. The beaches are pretty in these parts but to stay over may be a little too much of a hassle unless visiting friends who live there.

All along the way are tiny villages dotting the coast. If you have a lot of time to wander about, it's nice to pack a picnic basket in the back of the car. When tired or hungry , just pullover to the side and have a bit of lunch or siesta on the beach.

Scary shot!!! Yeah, progress!!! At what price!!!! But back to your photo. I love the color and tone that you captured here!!! Kind of an icy blue gives this scene an even colder and more sinister look with those billowing clouds that seem to be produced by this giant machine!!!! Very n icely done!!!!

i've always found factories disturbing and charming at the same time, and your shot expresses that very well!

Nice work bro ! Progress at the price of the whole world succumbing to environmental chaos. That's what I call a progressive destruction...

A magnificent visual commentary on progress and what it means to our world now and in the future. Reminds me of the lines from Kenny Loggins' song, Conviction of the Heart

"It's been too many years of taking now.
Isn't it time to stop somehow?
Air that's too angry to breathe, water our children can't drink
You've heard it hundreds of times
You say your aware, believe, and you care, but...
Do you care enough
To talk with Conviction of the Heart?"
