note suggests a less messy crop.... everything outside the note is unnescessary...... distracting.....

The mess/mud is an important part of the jockey and the horse's face.... It also puts the rule of thirds nearly in place....

YOU have to be in the right place at the right time....
Never mind that you have to concentrate on the aperture , focus point , shutter speed , focal length and ISO... and then the CROP....
WITHOUT tripping up , falling over and hurting yourself or the camera....or lens... or the unlucky little 5 yr old brat you just landed on... :-)))

You did well getting the shot in the first place... just needed to tidy it up a wee bit and isolate the important bits....
