Red Splash

Red Splash by shrike1964.
A splash of red food color in a shallow plate of clear water. I was playing around with a new toy I built last weekend. It's a sound activated flash controller that was set up to run my Nikon Speedlight running at 1/128th power (minimum power to get a really fast flash.)

I built version 3 of the circuit (I didn't order the kit, just ordered the components from Mouser) because I didn't want to mess around with trying to program a PIC. It took the better part of the weekend to build and troubleshoot, and I had to use nearly every piece of electronic gear I own. I wanted something to mess around with (photographically) while waiting for Maine to emerge from "Mud Season".

Wow. I guess it worked! So... do you actually have to stop your heart from beating when you take a shot? Do ambient noises cause an inordinate amout of "misfires?" Neato with a capital mosquito.

Depending on how high you've got the sensitivity set, ambient noise certainly can set it off, as can the sound of the shutter. Setting it so that the shutter just doesn't set it off, usually works pretty well.

This is so impressive. I'm in awe of your ability to create this sensor from scratch. However, you still have to take out the trash.

This one reminds me of jello.
