REMARK: LAN-LAY is still [ca. 2010] an operating company within the United States. According to its website, the company was founded in 1936 in the state of New York by Frank Whetzel, who offered a lanolin-based product marketed for skin care and hair grooming purposes. The company later came under the management of Jack Whetzel. The intrepid and stealthy entrepreneur Frank Whetzel is seen is this innovative advertising postcard, peering from the eerie darkness around a cardboard sign, as well as speaking through the use of a personally hand written comic word balloon. Penmanship and graphic design apparently were not Frank's forte! However, he excelled in possessing well-groomed hair and soft, supple hands .... God bless you, Mr. Whetzel!
