Anger

Asian vine snake. The black and white interscale markings that you see are usually displayed when the snake is really angry. They are rear fanged and slightly venomous. Their eyes are really beautiful with horizontal pupils, sometimes called keyhole pupils.

And no, I was not bitten by this guy.

@Naseer: The shot was taken in Amrita University, Coimbatore. I dont think this is the brown snake. The snake is a beautiful shade of green. The black and white scales that you see in this photo are usually displayed when the snake is angry. The snake is also called "pachila paambu" in malayalam.

very sharp, with good bokeh and composition.
You make fairly good use of the rule of thirds, and the exposure is pretty dead on for contrast and brightness of the snake.
You've disabled large view, so I cant comment on the sharpness of the eyes, but they look very good from what I can see.

Macro isnt really something I shoot to much, so I cant really make any suggestions on the technique front.

overall, its a nice catch

i really liked this photo a lot. i'm not a huge fan of wildlife photographs, but i thought this was really good. you really nailed the moment! perhaps one of the best aspects about this is the color harmony. the colors are quite muted - great shade of green and the black and white stands out well. good depth of field and nice composition. also, one of those situations when contrast isn't at its best but the photo still looks excellent. great job.
