Thechchi Poovu![]() A flower in my mum's painstakingly created garden. This is called thechchi poovu in Malayalam. I don't know the English name. Its used in some Hindu temples as garlands for the Idol.
CommentsLonelyInSpace says:Thanks :) *blushing*. Coming from a
photography expert, I'm honored! ooomz says:Ofcourse. In my tharavadu, there was a thechi kaadu near the pond. We children used to go there
and have fun having the honey. Also when the
flower is used for pooja, the thin line with
the honey on it is supposed to be removed.
Dont ask the reason please. It was the
children's responsibility to this tedious
task before any pooja at home. Oh i miss my
childhood and those fun days. Sadly that big
tharavadu veedu is now owned by a local money
bag.
LonelyInSpace says:Your description brought back a lot of fond
memories :). I know that the strand inside
had to be removed for the pooja. Remember
doing that at my dad's place for the ulsavam
vazhivaadukal. LonelyInSpace says:I asked my mum, and she said the
thechchi-chetthi naming convention depends on
which part of Kerala. I think chetthi is
usually the term used in Northern Kerala.
There is also a song chetthi mandaram thulasi
:)
