Finally made the trip out to Sparks Lake for sunrise. Took the drive with Miles "can't keep his eyes on the road" Morgan the day prior and crashed at his friend's place in Black Butte. I can't believe they let this guy fly, let alone have a drivers license.
Miles had called "top bunk!" days before we even headed out, and I was delighted to see when we arrived that the bottom bunk was a full double bed, while the top bunk was a tiny half width mattress, just 18 inches off the rafters. Miles was a good sport about it, and was just able to shoe-horn his 7 foot, 275 lb frame into the top bunk. All I had to worry about was his sorry behind falling on me and killing me in my sleep.
Sparks Lake the next morning was great, took us a while of stumbling around in the dark to find the giant sign and paved trail. We didn't get the blazing sunrise we were hoping for, just a mild case of frostbite instead. Still, it was a beautiful morning and well worth the drive!
