All the things she told me about her time modeling for Gil Elvgren, she enjoyed so much posing for him. She spent her teenage years on Siesta Key in Sarasota and enjoyed having a Father as an Artist, Siesta Key in the late 40's and 50's was home to several illustrator artists, Gil Elvgren the most notorious for his calendar girl artwork. Janet Rae daughter of Helen & Stuart Rae were neighbors with the Elvgrens and moved to Siesta Key in 1956. While it is noted that Gil painted from many famous models, his most favorite was Janet. She had a spirit that captivated him and knew how to give him that perfect pose. Elvgren gave my mother back all the photos & negatives from more than 75 sittings/photo shoots.
She and I spent many times looking at them as she reminisced everything it took to create what I now have in my possession. Still worthy of a book, I continue to write for those of you who remember the good ol'days!
