      i recognize those steps! ... i was told that they really weren't meant to be used but were more of a symbolic gesture connecting the house and people with the water ...

      ah the steps in the previous pic are those you speak of, these ones go from the first floor to the 2nd from the outside :)

      the stairs leading to the stream draw the cold air flowing over the stream into the house as a sort of air conditioning.
