holding hands with a good friend

holding hands with a good friend by massdistraction.
I just adore that little girl. She's one of the little man's "typical" classmates (it's an inclusion program, neurotypical kids mixed in with the special needs students) and is fairly shy and internal, but she really cliqued with my son. They get along well, without her ever being bossy (an irritating habit I've noticed in some of the neurotypical kids who play with the little man). Thankfully they'll be in first grade together too.

wonderful. Tristan has the second half of his day with neurotypical children. It's amazing how warm and welcoming they are to him. I mean most of the time, he pays little attention to them, but they love him, just like they love all their other classmates, and they get excited to see him or me. I was walking in to pick him up as one of his classmates was walking out once and the little guy smiled, pointed at me and exclaimed "Tristan!" (they're at the age where "tristan's mom" isn't necessarily going to come out right)

Heehee. Yeah, I feel like a rock star whenever I join the class for field trips and such. Yesterday each adult held hands with two children when crossing the street, but several kids wanted to hold my hand. And I didn't mean to sound snarky...for the most part the neurotypical kids have been wonderful, very kind and welcoming. But as they get older some seem to think they need to take charge when playing with the little man, to help him do things he's quite capable of doing on his own, but things he might do slightly differently than they would...

Fyi, I just replaced this image with a higher-res version, so I can order prints. Hopefully the difference isn't noticeable...

mine is still young. no bossiness yet.

My oldest who isn't quite 'neurotypical' but isn't autistic either has come home complaining of bossy class mates. though the school decided to switch classrooms and no complaints this year (they thought it would be good, but consulted w/ me first - she's in Montessori so typically they don't switch more than every 3 years.

I love this photo! I found it by accident, and keep coming back to it. It's something about the lighting, or the movement, or the innocence, or something... :-)

Thanks! I'm glad I had the presence of mind to snap this one off as we were heading back to the school. It's a lovely reminder of a pleasant morning, and a great way to close out the schoolyear.

That is so great, my son is Autistic and about to start at a new school, do you think I should push the program or no?
He doesn't really have interests in other kids so I don't know what to do?

Maybe because this is how bossy kids should be instead. Maybe because of a mechanical misunderstanding of the girl's pointing upwards. Who knows. Interesting. I've been told some pics were out of my SafeSearch filter when they were just complicated or odd, not objectionable.
