Apple reinvents the phone. Imagine Apple's typically easy to use computer software interface, like a touchscreen keypad when you need to dial. When you want to watch a video, it's got a screen bigger then the Video iPod. Suddenly, the phone interface isn't fixed and rigid, it's fluid and molten. Software replaces hardware. The traditional phone is obsolete for all the things it's become. This integrated device is driven by a mini-computer with a web browser that displays regular websites instead of the stripped down versions of all phones and mobile devices today. It also happens to be a phone, a camera, and a video iPod as well. Apple is hoping that the iPhone takes off like it's iPod forefather. Today, Apple stocks went up while cell phone companies' went down across the board.

wow shapeshift, a great picture of all the hype around the shiny new toy. All the studies still point to content not being the killer app for mobile. Ultimately, people already have cameras, computers and phones. Maybe this new interface will move data communications to a new level.

@altus... i hear you but i heard from someone that you cannot use this device without hooking up with a phone provider. i hope this is not true.

@sean... the stun gun version will come out will be included with the 5th generation... :~)

I want one of these, too, but it won't be out until next year in Australia. Mobile phones are completely ubiquitous here, and a lot of people are hoping for a 3G version by then. The user interface will be a real draw - but personally, I'm hoping that the battery will be removable (behind that darker plastic at the bottom? and if it's EDGE, there's a removable SIM card in there somewhere anyway).

The photograph is excellent: a nicely highlighted logo on the back, and hordes of people looking at - or photographing - the device. It really gives a sense of the occasion.

I've heard Apple got a sue after introducing the iPhone, but I don't know why.

I agree with Morgspace, I hope we don't have to deal with the 'rechargable inner battery'. It's something I don't like of my iPod video.

Nah, guess I won't buy this one for a while. I'll let a couple of friends to try it just to make sure it's perfect for me. Gotta say that I hate the phonebook in my iPod. I mean, I did buy a Palm a lot of time ago and it's perfect for me so far.

I have enough fixing tags record companies get wrong (they do, believe me) to also have to introduce all the info.

But I gotta admit the idea of having this expensive toy with a camera. Oh well! I really wonder if it will be a good camera.
