Ayakulik Coho salmon

Ayakulik Coho salmon

Taken on a fly rod. The Ayakulik is on the Western edge of Kodiak Island, AK. I feel very privileged to have spent a week up there fishing and enjoying the company.

This is a nice male (buck), approximately 16 lbs that still has sea lice attached. This suggests the fish had been in freshwater for less than eight hours. He was quickly unhooked and released into the river to spawn.

The fly dangling in his mouth is a pink and purple leech cone head, a very effective pattern on this river.

Zoe looking back

Zoe looking back

My daughter is coming up on her tenth month already!

At the moment, each strand of hair finishes in a fine point, unlike any other time subsequent to the first haircut. Her eyelashes are coming in a little thicker lately too. Sad to see her grow so quickly, but such is life.

Jeff Louder @ Tour of California 2011

Jeff Louder @ Tour of California 2011

This year's race again ended in my home town of Thousand Oaks. Last year I saw the departure and one lap of the circuit around the Rockstore climb. This year they changed the finish and had a smaller circuit, ending in front of city hall.

Because of this, we were treated to seeing the peloton six times in a very short period of time. This particular lap I deliberately used a slower shutter speed to capture a sense of motion.

Congrats to Chris Horner, the overall winner. Let's hope Amgen continues to sponsor America's biggest bike race.

Ba, ba, ba, oops!

Ba, ba, ba, oops!

Sometimes I wonder what she is trying to tell me. Getting very expressive with her vocalizations lately, especially if we are not feeding her quickly enough.

Baby is getting big

Baby is getting big

Baby Zoe is sitting by herself, has welcomed two bottom teeth and is pretty much eating any solid food we give her. Eight months have passed by too quickly.

Strobist info: Nikon SB-900 at 1/4 power in a Paul Buff 64" parabolic light modifier just above and camera left. It is surprising how efficient the silver umbrella can be in reflective configuration. This is at f/11 and max sync speed of 1/250s, ISO 200.
