Lisa Murtagh, the 2007 Rose of Tralee, will officially launch the 29th World Baton Twirling Championships, at a photocall in the University Sports Arena . Lisa will be pictured with David Doyne, Sarah Sexton and Sophie Doyne all of whom, will be representing Ireland this year at the world Championships. Two younger Baton Twirlers, Georgina Gaffney and Clare Fitzgerald both aged 6 years will also be present and Karen Brosnahan, business development officer from Meet Limerick Shannon sports and Conference Bureau who was instrumental in securing the championships to Limerick.

The 29th World Baton Twirling Championships are taking place in the University of Limerick Sports Arena from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 August. This is the first time that Ireland will host this prestigious event. Over 3,500 athletes, coaches and supporters from 24 different nations are expected to visit Limerick during the championships. Ireland is currently ranked 10th in the world in this sport our picture shows from left; Lisa Murtagh, the 2007 Rose of Tralee, Sarah Sexton, Linda Hanlon and Julie Hanna.
