Cropped from the square format to 8x10 for my wife's sake.

Lighting is Metz Mecablitz 60, camera left. I positioned him under a tree, then metered the ambient with an incident meter so I had the ambient underexposed by a stop. That was my fill. I then flash-metered the strobe for the desired aperture. I shot this on a tripod as I was shooting Kodak Portra 160 film (@ 125), so the shutter speed was slow-ish.

This is a set up shot for the portrait following, taken on my dSLR.

Every year my wife insists on having our boys' school photos done the traditional way. But she's a little spoiled, having a professional photographer in the house. So inevitably I have to take one or the other boy out to a park and "redo" the school photos. It was Finn's turn this year. This is an outtake of sorts, but probably my favorite.

This one was shot with ambient light only, under a tree. Kodak Portra 160, Bronica SQ-Am with 80mm f/2.8 lens.

I was documenting a baby's christening recently, and caught his cousin sneaking a peek at me.

Nikon F5, 24-70 f/28 lens, TTL strobe bounced behind me or to the rear-side, depending on the situation. Ambient was about a stop down, but the church was white inside and the strobe was lighting up much of the space.
