Wireless Surfing

Wireless Surfing by Yazdgerd.
Surfing Internet using MessagePad, through a shared wireless connection. Pretty fast, too bad it is not showing any images!

I've got the same Messagepad 2000, and the same wireless card, but I can't get the drivers to work... Care to lend a hand? If so, email me at scottdog1515@gmail.com

Thanks

Scott, using wireless is not that hard! Just do these important tasks:

1-Remove ANY extra patches or drivers, just leave Hiroshi's driver! Any other patch can cause problems! Even "Lantern" and "moreWifi".

2-There are a lot of Lucent wireless cards, try the silver orinoco, as I have tried other "supported" cards, and none of them really worked!

3-This is very important, TAP on the "cards" icon (while Wifi card is already inserted). If the wireless card setup screen appears, your installation is right. If it doesn't, something is wrong and you should check everything including your Newton's "Internet Extensions".

4-Set your Internet setup as "Manual", and put a simple IP address (like 10.0.1.7). For the router (or your computer) too, just a simple IP like "10.0.1.1". This must work!

Simply run Courier (web browser) and connect! It might work at once, unless something is wrong. I'll send this to your email too!

Ahhh the Newton. That is pretty sweet!

Seeing as how you're still up to date with it, how are you using it nowadays? With OS X or do you have an Old World machine still around that you connect it to? I'd love to get my MP2000 going again and now that I see you've got WiFi running, I'm REALLY interested. Links to stuff or could you fire me an email?

Thanks Jared!

I am currently using it under OS X, nothing old! For Address Book synchronizing, I use "NewtSync" ver. 0.3m for OS X (no iCal sync available at the moment, other versions are also not recommended).

Also, "Newton Connection for OS X" by Simon Bell is just out! Again, no sync, but still useful for other tasks:
homepage.mac.com/simonbell/connection/

"Escale" for OSX is another option, buggy though:
www.kallisys.com/newton/dcl/

For WiFi connection, to my knowledge, the best option is Orinoco Silver (Lucent) wifi card. This link tells you how to connect it:
tools.unna.org/wikiwikinewt/index.php/WiFi

Also, don't forget to read my note for Scott (above) to get the wireless connection work. Let me know if you need any other help! :-)

Edit: You'll get better results by upgrading to Newton 2100, as it really provides significant changes, I bought the upgrade kit here:

Wow! I wish my backlight looked like that :D. Even when I added a replacement, it was only about 1/2 that bright >.<.
