Well this is our 8th year together. We have climbed mountains & swum oceans together, shared bothies, tents beds & venison & crab. He was so small when he arrived, he would sleep in one of my socks while we bivvyed the blizzard strewn Cullin in winter. Now he gets under the downy & tries to fart me out of my own bed.
He barks in Gaelic. As an aside, we experimented with barking underwater in his formative years - it doesn't work. I held him afloat in the Atlantic surf while he learned to swim, & taught him his first fence jump. When he was broken & anesthetized, I never left his side. When I was broken, & anesthetized myself, he repayed the kindness. He is good at tracking lost people in the mountains. He chases cats, & hides from owls. He is obsessed by the geometry of buddha, round things to you & me. His cleaniness regime is monumentally OCD. Would I swap any of these moments, neurosis, each nuance, hilarity or doldrum spent?...those past, or to come?...I could write a book...Can't believe we've reached 8 years so swiftly...

The task I'd set myself here, was to maximize exposure without blurring the trawler or any other solid invaluable to the frame. At 60 seconds & /f8, it's a little tricky, especially when you consider I managed this without the tripod & in fairly scudding conditions. Light, for the most part, was provided by a fisherman arc welding a hull to my far left on our remote wee harbour. Interspersed with occasional swords of moonlight, this was the result.

....And now the Shipping Forecast, as issued by the Met Office on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency at 00:48 GMT today...now attention all shipping, there are warnings of gales in Hebrides, Bailey, Fair Isle...hurricane force 12 backing northwesterly, decreasing storm force 10 imminent... veering west... severe gale 9 to violent storm 11 expected imminent... Rain...then squally showers... Poor... dropping more slowly....Icelandic light vessel automatic...severe gale 10...
