I took this photograph at Place Vendôme which is this busy traffic circle in downtown Paris. Between the sidewalk and the road are these little concrete pillars, about waist height, that do a token effort of slowing cars down if they come careening into the sidewalk. Scooters and motorbikes and buses sped into this intersection, all trying to go somewhere else in a hurry. And I crouched on the wrong side of these pillars, resting my camera on top of one of them, because it was oh so beautiful.
