The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same (and the rebels are always condemned)

‎"You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is
to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the great struggle for independence."
Charles Austin Beard (1874-1948)

I don't know who created the delightful artist's rendering of how the Continental Congress would be received if it were taking place today but "GREAT JOB!" and thanks to whomever it was.

More fun! www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/21/pepper-spray-cop-meme_n...

THE MOST INEXPENSIVE PHOTOGRAPH IN THE WORLD

THE MOST INEXPENSIVE PHOTOGRAPH IN THE WORLD

Sorry to say that this shot doesn't rank in the ASTOUNDING category as the preceding one but I'll sell it cheaply based on it's lack of ART. (This is part of a glass block window in my daughter's kitchen.)

THE MOST EXPENSIVE PHOTOGRAPH IN THE WORLD

THE MOST EXPENSIVE PHOTOGRAPH IN THE WORLD

This photo by Andreas Gursky was just sold at Christie's Auction House for $4.3 million dollars setting a world auction record for a photograph. The only thing I find worth that much money in reference to the photo is the enjoyably pompous "WHAT THE FUCK?" explication by Francis Outred, Christie's Head of Post War and Contemporary Art Europe. "...it is an astounding picture of nature..." Yes, folks, he said ASTOUNDING.

But not everyone is agreeing that the emperor has new clothes. "Some have questioned whether the photo is a work of art worthy the hefty price tag. An unnamed gallery professional told Wired they thought the price was exorbitant, attributing the high sale price to a new fad where photographers are finding it easier to sell their work in higher-priced fine art markets if they call themselves 'artists.'"

Artist shmartist. If Gursky had called himself an "artiste" pronouncing the "i" as an "e" he might have gotten even more for the snapshot.

SMILE & CHEER UP

SMILE & CHEER UP

Old building in St. Louis that produced carbonated beverages in the 1940s-1950s: an orange-flavored soda called "SMILE" and another called "CHEER UP" which was a take-off of "7 Up". The tiled advertising is on the side of the building which has been converted to condominiums.
