Tie-Dye Roses

Tie-Dye Roses by Mrs. Jenny Ryan.
On display at the LA County Fair...yep, they are REAL and alive! They were created in the Netherlands and are dyed using hypodermic needles inserted in the stems as they grow. Crazy!!

I know that they sell them at a florist in Santa Cruz, although the article I read in the local paper said that how they were created was a trade secret.

They are white roses, injected with dyes it can be done with other white flowers too. If you put white flowers in water with food dye you can change their colours so this is just a step further.

We used to do this with celery. I bet if you split the stem of a white rose into 5 pieces, maybe with an Exacto knife or a razor blade, and then put each section in a different container of water and food coloring, it would have this effect.
