Crosstown Abandoned Home
Found this very cool abandoned home today just outside the town of Crosstown Missouri. Last year Crosstown had an F4 rated tornado basically wipe the town off the map. I think some of the metal roof that is curled up here is probably from that storm. Although there were ~60 homes destroyed nobody died. The local fair was going that evening and most residents were at the fair thankfully.
***3-30-11 Update I was told that this home has now since been demolished.

Oh, I love this house!!! The kind of scallopped siding/shingles right
beneath the roof -- there's a house on my page that has that,
and I'm trying to figure out when that style was popular, to give me
an idea of when the house was built. Funny, the house on
my page was hit by tornados too, twice! Obviously these are tough
houses or they wouldn't even still be standing. Wonder why
they just go to waste like this.... =o(

Damn... I wonder how much it would cost to have this house moved to Ohio? It needs some loving occupants...

What a cool house, so sad that once it was someone's dream and now is decayed and ruined!

I can imagine some of the antique bottles or old tools at the bottom of its well / cistern. Great thought provoking shot - I bet the kids had a swing on one of those trees! I can even hear the cows & chickens! Very nice !

How i wish that i could live in a house the size of this. it's just so beautiful, what character! I wish english houses were like this instead of postage stamp sized. someone should give it some love and fill it full of kids and dogs. i wonder if it's as decrepid as it looks? to withstand a tornado is no mean feat surely? Stunning xXx

I grew up in a house that looks eerily similar to that one. It was called The Old Ledbetter Place. The one difference is that a chimney stood on the outside, around the corner from the front porch. It was a magical place to live and grow up. I was told by the owners family that it was built during the years before the civil war. It had large, hand hewn square logs as the framework and was nailed with square, handmade looking nails. I suppose that is why they are still standing through the storms and tornados that are prevalent in Missouri and Arkansas. Our house was in the small town of Elkins, Arkansas. Unfortunately it burned to the ground several years after we built our new home just across the back field. How I wish I had a picture of it now!

This is beautiful! Do you know if it's still standing? I took this shot www.flickr.com/photos/atticgirl/4461924607/in /set-7215762... of this house a couple of months ago, and now, for the life of me, I cannot find that house! & it's definately not easy to overlook :)
