Stormy sky- St Mary's Cemetery

This is one of a group of photos I took on 28 March 2006- a rainy and overcast day- in St Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Kensal Green London, and the neighbouring Kensal green Cemetery. Both are largely 19th Century with Kensal Green-the first of London's Magnificent Seven Cemeteries-opened in 1832, and St Mary's in 1858. The post processing involved increasing the contrast, and darkening the skies , and increasing the reds and yellows in the colour balance.

Thanks- all of you for your kind comments! The lighting was special on that day- dark clouds, intermittent rain and sun. I've been enjoying experimenting with a "semi-sepia" style- involving slight desaturation and then boosting the red and yellow. RubyMae- I don't know Edward Gorey- I'll just do a search on Google and find out I think!

Thanks everyone- it looks like this one hit the flickr jackpot! As I said earlier- the light was good- in fact unpleasant rainy weather is often surprisingly good for photos! Jasohill- thanks-The A75 is the only digital camera I've ever used-it's certainly got its limitations and I am sure if I had a Digital SLR- which I hope to get some day- I would do less processing on the computer. But I'm still impressed with what it can do.

Everyone- thanks very much! This is by far my most popular photo. About the dark edges that a couple of people commented on- that was a not very subtle approach to vignetting that was a bit of a habit a few months back. I'd do it a bit differently now. I 'm still a fan of the square format, brooding skies and slightly sepia tint though.

Thanks very much all. It's always worth taking the camera out on a rainy windy day- as the light can be spectacular. Now i would make the darkened edges and peripheral blurring a bit more subtle.
