Waiting for the snow

We've had 2 snowfalls already- and both have melted. It's now about 5 degrees above zero. Here's a picture from a real winter- January 2006. It was minus 28 degrees C when I took this.

Many aristocratic and royal ladies, including the first wife of Peter the Great , were forced to become nuns and live here. In effect it was a form of imprisonment used by tsars fearful of a "palace coup" (a coup in which the army depose the reigning monarch and put another member of the royal family on the throne).

This is the view from the neighbouring cemetery.
