Alas, we are not its creators. Tim was a messenger in Minneapolis and says this was how they decided who got to pick where to go for lunch, but it's apparently been established elsewhere.

Here is a video of the game in action. (Note that I am disappointed, even though my ninja beat Tim's cowboy. It was only my second time playing and I couldn't keep my trumps straight.)
