The Crows of Pearblossom, sweater dress
I had a picture book when I was a kid that has stuck with me, in ethereal ways, for decades. I remembered inky dense speckled eggs on matte paper, a snake and something about a chimney.
Fast forward to these internet times, and it turns out to be "The Crows of Pearblossom" - one of two children's book written by Aldous Huxley - well, wasn't I a fancy child? And the eggs, snake and chimney were Barbara Cooney illustrations. This dress was inspired by those dense speckled eggs. It's a sweater dress, and a rather substantial one at that. Let me tell you about the fabrics. They are similarly toned, and all different shades of olive-bordering on taupe. The collar, front panel and waist are speckled sweater-weight cotton. The main top fabric is a soft wool and polyester blend, the brassier olive skirt is mor sweater-weight cotton, and the bottom panel is lush cotton velvet. I don't think it's possible to overestimate the comfort level you can attain in this dress. Shape: It has a high sculpted collar, boxy 3/4 length sleeves with full flared cuffs, a sculpted front section, full hip area - mildly tapered bottom panel. It's plus-sized but will also work well if you like things oversized. CommentsSecret Lentil
