black oystercatcher callingIn a flock of a dozen at Point Hudson. What a spectacular bird ... black head, blackish-brown body, pink legs and feet, red, yellow, and black eyes, big bright red bill!.

minke whaleYou can see the paired blowholes reentering the water as the fin emerges. Minkes are baleen whales that are 23-33 feet long (7-10 m). Can stay underwater 20 minutes. Moves unpredictably underwater, and may vanish without a trace. I took this photo from a boat miles off the coast, but minkes are often visible from Point Hudson.
