End Of The Night, Start Of The Life

It was a chilly October evening on the deck at Rick's Cafe Boatyard, and it had rained most of the day... but all the guests had left, and Ryan & Ashley had not yet had a single moment to themselves. This was it.

While I set up the scene, their interaction and emotions are entirely 100% unscripted. I said "sit here" and told them "I'm not here. Just reflect on your day knowing you're husband and wife now."

Strobist: This is deceptive in that it's a single strobe. There is an island bar on the deck, and after-hours they close these white "garage doors"... so the strobe is directly behind them, through a grid pointed straight at the white reflective surface that's only maybe 12 inches to the right of the picture. That huge white surface became a HUGE (I mean over 100") diffuser giving that amazing huge soft light... but the strobe behind was bright enough to become a rim light at the same time.
