ShellsFrom our Good Friday, 2009 visit to Port Aransas. (I'd hoped for a shallower depth-of-field, but am still trying to figure out how to pull off some of those tricks effectively with the PowerShot. One of these days I'll upgrade to a higher-level camera!) Uploaded on Apr 10, 2009 San Marcos River Panorama
One of my favorite spots on the San Marcos River: an island bordered by cypress trees with elaborate intertwined root systems. This is a 4 photo panorama taken from a kayak. (It's better at high resolutions, but I'm too cheap to shell out for the premium Flickr account!) Uploaded on Feb 26, 2009 At A Loss for WordsWhile wandering an antique store this evening, I came across a case of old lead movable type. Different faces and sizes were all loaded in together, setting my logophile heart aflutter. I was particularly amused after the fact to find the "SOS" in the bottom of the image. (And yes, the letters are backwards. They have to be that way to leave the correct image on paper when you print with them.) Uploaded on Jan 19, 2009 Alien SkullThis was actually just a rock that was mostly embedded in the ground that we spotted on our walk today. We thought it striking enough to be worth a photo, though. Our brains really are remarkably good at identifying faces, even where none actually exists. Uploaded on Jan 19, 2009 Cactus FruitOne reason I love Texas is because of the startling array of interesting cacti and succulents that dot the state. While on a hike today, I spotted this Pencil Cactus (perhaps -- correct me if you know better) in full fruit. It was especially striking, as it was surrounded by lots of prickly pear that was doing extremely poorly in the cold and drought. I loved the color and the way the light was shining through the fruit in places. Uploaded on Jan 19, 2009 |
