I do like the light shining through his shirt and behind his head ... light is like most things, more beautiful when next to it's contrast ... I don't know the atmosphere of this place first hand but you do provide us with atmosphere - I feel I can see and hear the actuality portrayed by the photos.

the photographer and the lens play certainly a major role but I wonder if the dust accumulated in the passage doesn't help to create that magic light ?

No, it doesn't.
Dust particles are reflected beautifully on if the dust is falling from above
