This one is from my most recent trip to the desert southwest. We did a lot of searching for art on the trip, and on this hike found some really nice petroglyphs.

Burrowing Owl

There are several families of burrowing owls that live in the abandoned ground squirrel burrows in the field by where I work. They are also known to take over the burrows of prairie dogs. This one was hanging out especially close to the parking lot one day as I was leaving. These owls are quite small and only grow to about 10 inches in length and weigh about 6 ounces.
