Not whacked. Nothing happened, except maybe the waitress taking their order. Life goes on, he goes to jail for a bit, he gets out eventually. Sil languishes in the hospital, AJ remains pompous and clueless, Meadow slowly transforms into her mother. Rinse, repeat.

David Chase even said in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago that people shouldn't expect closure, and that Hollywood spoon-feeds the public stories with tidy endings. As soon as I read that I figured we'd get no satisfaction out of the finale - so much so I told my wife not to read the EW article.
