I didn't know that these things still existed. Was this taken in the bowels of the NY subway system?

Yes, it was taken in the uptown Christopher St station on the 7th Ave IRT.

Now the big question is: Does it still work? I know that there has been a big push of late to get rid of them. Something about pay phones only being used for criminal activity I think.
