I don't think there's a plastic cover on the
lens. I just took a picture of the back of
the phone so you can check for yourself.

You're right; I don't see anything that looks
like a piece of plastic that wants to be
removed, or obvious schmutz on the lens.
It would be interesting to see the same
scene photographed with both camerasphones. This kitchen view is good since it
has potential flare sources.
