I would get a spitjack/clockjack so you roast meats in front of the fire. Catch the drippings, let it turn in front of the heat, and end up with juicy, succulent meat.

Sigh. I wish I had a fireplace. Though, come to think of it, I'm not sure how we'd keep the cats from going ballistic if I hooked up the spitjack in front of it.
