Office #1
Trying out a new location for the office. A great view helps, the first location I tried, in the den, was too dark on a nice day like today. So I tried setting up a table in the front-facing upstairs bedroom.

You need to get yourself a nice Arts and Crafts desk to match the rest of your furniture! ;)

cool. just add a Hermann Miller Aeron chair and you're set! ;)

i was thinking that that room would be good for an office/media room. i said as much to grace when we were there. i even showed her exactly how i would lay it out. because i thought having that view would be rather nice and an inspiration...when necessary.
anyway, you really could make that room pretty darn fabulous as an office. and maybe switch the downstairs room into a media room. it's already dark. and close to the kitchen...for snacks!

You need a second monitor for the MacBook. A $20 cable will let you hook up most 17" or 19" LCD screens.
I also agree with Kosso -- you need an Aeron.
Get a UPS or decent powerstrip. I hear that you guys in California suffer brownouts and blackouts...
BTW, my MacBook seems to run a lot cooler if I don't run PhotoShop all the time. I use ImageWell (free) for basic web posting, and only run PhotoShop if I really need it.

I have a 1" high x 3 1/2" deep piece of wood along the bottom of my MacBook. It tilts the back up a little and allows for air to circulate underneath. Keeps it cooler.

OK Dave... since everyone else is giving you advice on your 'new' office... here's my $.02.
1) New desk - my suggestion: BioMorph X02 ($349 basic, $498 w/keyboard worksurface)
2) New Chair - Aeron is cool - but if you want solid surface and ergonomics look at thewww.humanscale.com/products/freedom_index.cfm or [Freedom Regular $898].
3) Elevator for iBook - I use the [Targus Podium CoolPad, $ ] and love it.
4) The VIEW .. well, you have a good one. However, normally I'd prefer the one the guy from Montana would have to even your view of the Bay .. but NOT THIS TIME!
Sheeze Louise, Scobey, MT is about as FYNOw/FCW-north as one can get in the US (<15 mi. from Canada!) ! I'd pine for a view of SFB if I was stuck in Scobey, too! Not all of MT is Paradise Valley!! One reason they only have 935,000 people in the entire state!
Well, those are my suggestions. I've found that if you meet the needs of a good quality desk and chair and have an inspirational view to look upon now-and-then, then an office is pretty well set. The rest are accouterments. But, Oh! ... how I do love those accouterments. "; )
Enjoy ..

lesOfieldstream: yes, Scobey is very close to Canada (needing a passport next year is going to suck). I've never been to SF, but I like the winter more than summer, so I guess Montana isn't all bad. :)
