BSOD/Mac

BSOD/Mac by scriptingnews.
The Macintosh equivalent of the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death." My iBook G4 got into this mode the same day they announced the new MacBooks! How about that.

Dave - Have you tried Parallels yet? It lets you run Windows in a window under OS X. It has changed my life - or at least my working life - and I suspect it might change a few others' too, maybe even yours. That would give you a way to have a Windows BSOD on your Mac :)

Happend to me once, the day I got my powerbook and wanted to see how far I would have to go to crash it... It did this when I started trashing files in the /System folder. ;->

It's (most likely) a kernel exception which is/can not be caught by the software.

Adobe/Macromedia Flash is good at showing you this screen too. Just use Firefox and Flashblock and you're safe from that end.

Applications that are designed following Apple's Dev guidelines are less likely to do that to you. With Tiger it happened to me once so far, yesterday on the new Apple/Nike page when shopping for overpriced sweatshop shoes. On Panther I had it 4 times!!!

btw: Big Love…torrent? ;)

Most Mac guys call this a kernel panic. I call this the GSOD - Gray Shroud of Death because of how the transparent sheet drops down from the top of the screen. ;) Don't see them often, but when they happen somethings amiss.

@gmik - LOL You probably had to do a reinstall after all that. Not a good idea to delete things higgledy piggledy from the /System folder. :)

@^daniel^ - I do the same thing when I get a new computer. I try to run as many apps as I can and do as much as I can all at once until the system begins to cough and sputter. Gives me a good idea of what the new machine's ceiling is.

Indeed, I had to reinstall everything.

But that's just the game I like to play. Somehow trying to pushing it to breaking point, and discovering it's really hard to do, makes me trust it more later.
