Gale, Right off the coast of LA and Santa Barbara. Both species have established summer feeding areas near the Channel Islands. The Blues were very thick in the Catalina Channel last year. I have a nice new boat and I am hoping to take advantage.

I need to take advantage of what's in my own backyard.

Nice photos. Those are not lampreys on the trailing edge of the flukes, but stalked barnacles. I suspect they are Xenobalanus globicipitis, a species of stalked barnacles found on a variety of cetacean species.
