A Sneak Peak at Tomorrow's Climb

Distance: 11 miles
Elevation gain: 8700′ - 9600′

Day 4 started with a hike through Lyell Canyon - a long, imperceptibly uphill walk following along the very scenic Lyell River. Today's hike's scenery far surpassed the scenery from Days 1 and 2. Moreover, this stretch is probably the easiest hiking throughout the entire JMT.

The day concluded with a sharp and tiring ascent out of the canyon toward Donahue Pass.
