JMT 2007 - Day 01

Elevation gain: 4035′ - 7020′

We started our trek on the JMT at the Happy Isles trail head in Yosemite Valley. The trail head is situated at around 4,000 ft. We hiked 5.4 miles to a bit beyond the Half Dome junction.

The first half of the trip offered views of the Yosemite Valley. The second half of the day, however, was through trees and was rather lackluster.

This was our first real form of physical exercise the entire summer since virtually all of the summer was spent taking a road trip across the country. We really felt winded and out of shape the first few days of the trip!
