Shot using an 8mm lens at f/3.5 (30 seconds @ ISO 1600). I took a couple of test shots to determine the correct exposure for the sky (but the barn remained pitch black). Then I waited for a car to come up the road - it's headlights illuminating the barn. When the car entered the field of view, I covered the lens until it passed - so the sky was actually only burned in for about 22 seconds.

Lighting info:
The room was large and fairly dark (even for a wedding reception venue). There were, however, lots of small Christmas lights suspended from the ceiling and a balcony behind me where I placed 2 studio strobes (1 800w & 1 1600w) both blasting into the ceiling (about 40 feet above the dance floor).
The shutter speed was set to 1/5 of a second. I kept the camera moving during the exposure. The flashes froze the dancers' action and the motion of the camera caused the ambient lights to swirl.
