What spider is this?

What spider is this? by Scoobymoo.
Please.

Don't be freaked - spiders are wonderful, and this one is, apparently, carrying her babies around with her.

When I first saw this spider I thought it might be infested with mites, but after an internet trawl I'm guessing she's a wolf spider with her cubs.

This is amazing! I am afraid of spiders but can still be amazed by the sight of one - especially with its little ones.

cannot tell from here, but both wolf spiders (Family Lycosidae) and nursery-web spiders / fishing spiders (Family Pisauridae) are known to carry their young on their abdomen...

Thanks WomanChild and Photophool. I'd never seen anything like this before myself.

@Myrmician: Thanks for the info. I originally assumed she was a normal house spider (I'm in the UK) but from what I could find out, they don't carry around their young. I don't think she'd be a fishing spider (no water nearby - unless she's on holiday 'Are we there yet, Mum?'!) I'll have a look at nursery-web spiders later when I have time.
