Check out 'Behind the Rocks at Night' Large On Black.
I figure this is a good way to start off the Moab images right?
This is one of my favorite shots of the whole trip. Not just as an image to view, but as being able to enjoy the process as well.
I took this on Friday the 13th. We had just made it to the campsite earlier on in the afternoon and had finally gotten around to getting camp setup and were hanging out around the fire.
The night was perfect, the stars were out, and the moon was nowhere to be found. So after everyone else had gone to bed, I loaded up into the trusty Montero and headed out to take some night shots. This one is by far and away my favorite of the group that night.
The trip out to this location was part planning, part luck. Seeing as in order to get out there you have to go over some pretty tricky 4-wheel drive trails, that during the day look like what you might expect the surface of Mars to look like. This was no easy feat (But it was damn fun).
Once I finally got out to this location about 20 minutes later, and parked the Montero on an insane incline, I setup the tripod, setup the composition the best I could with the flashlight, and started shooting.
My first shot (which I will post later) was a 5 min test shot to make sure I had things lined up properly. After a few adjustments I started this shot.
30 minutes and a quick nap in the Montero with the heater running later I finally had this shot.
Like I said, it's one of my favorites of the trip, and I hope you like it as well.
More to come soon!
Me setting up for the shot.
