Mountain Reservoir Panorama

A HDR Panorama shot of a reservoir in Colorado, just North of the town of Leadville. I created 2 HDR shots from 6 total shots and then merged them in photostitch to create this image.

Edit 4-4-07:
Ok, so I edited this just now, but I am still not happy with the way it turned out. The colors are a bit off and the artifacts from the photostitch are still pretty ugly.

It's a shame really as it is a amazing image... Will have to retry this one with my new photostich program when I get home and see if it makes a difference...

Edit 9-2-07:
In honor of this image's 1000th view and making it into my 1000+ set, I have finally re-edited this shot with my new photostitching software (Panorama Maker 4) to remove the ugly stitching errors that plagued the original. The original source images were used as to not change the color of the image, just to fix the errors in the lake and treeline.
I now consider this image perfect and as such will be adding it to my Imagekind sales site. You can see it framed here.

Anyone, photographer or not, can look at any image and instantly register whether it looks "real" or "natural," and if not, why it doesn't. I'm commenting not to rag on you but to suggest that you could change your approach and come out with a substantially improved final product.

I would suggest experimenting more with your hdr technique, perhaps including methods that do not involve two separate files at all (this is rarely necessary), and using the shadow/highlight tool sparingly and carefully.

While I agree with your assessment here, and if you would care to check out any of my recent images (this photo was taken back in 2006 and I have done much HDR work since then) you would note that I have taken much of what you say into practice. However, with that said, I do believe that there is also a place for stylized representations of locales. This may be more considered "Art" than "Photography" as the image no longer accurately represents the scene, but in some cases that can be a good thing visually, and can produce some wildly stunning results.

As for this shot in particular, I like the look of this one as it conveys a sense of drama, but based upon your thoughts I will have to go back and give it another go with my updated skills. I will try and post my results sometime this week if I can get a break to work on it.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, it is always appreciated and helps me become a better photographer.
