Berlin's Brandenburg Gate now and then!

A stark contrast from the renovated Brandenburg Gate in the upper part area, the lower part of the image clearly shows the destruction at the end of the Second World War.

After the construction of the gate was completed, it was not crowned by a symbol of the Goddess of Peace for long - Napoleon took the Quadriga to Paris in 1806 after conquering Berlin. When it was returned to Prussia in 1814, the statue then exchanged her Olive Wreath for the Iron Cross thusly becoming the Goddess of Victory.

In 2005, I just happened to be at the Gate when an exposition featured this large canvas; I aligned myself so it would look to be right underneath the memorial.

Hier in Tschechien das gegenteil, das Land würde nicht bombardiert und ruiniert nach dem Krieg aber Tschechien sieht fast so ruiniert aus heute wie Deutschland nach dem Krieg (ausserhalb die falsche touristische Seite von Prag, natürlich, die nicht zu tun hat mit der traurigen, armen tschechien)
