A column in architecture and structural engineering is a vertical structural element that transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below. Other compression members are often termed columns because of the similar stress conditions. - Dunstan
The masonry here is really quite exquisite. I would very much like to see a more detailed photo-essay. - rcrowley
The hanging wire is a metaphor for the threat of dangerous technology in modern society. - Seldo
Intriguing, because this is a color similar to one that architect Gae Aulenti employs for many of her creative re-uses of older structures. Somewhat daring to use it here, a subtle reference, ultimately. - Nicole Harvey
Subtle yet confronting, with underlying social commentary. A tangible and visible attack on an egregious, globally-focused patriarchal anchorage. - man durphy
So I was shopping at this store (not a pillar store, but that would
have sufficed,) looking for furniture; I noticed these pillars, which
reminded me of the ones in my place. You can visit the store yourself to worship this phallic (as some
would claim) object in person, down in Potrero Hill! (but only on
Sundays.)
(Edit): I appear to have struck a nerve with the structural concrete
community fanbase; I knew you were out there hiding somewhere. PILLARS and COLUMNS FTW!!
