I got into the Catlins region quite late after driving from Moeraki and spending sunset at nugget point. I had no idea where to take a photo at sunrise but I knew that I wanted to because I've heard the Catlins beaches are amazing. I checked a map and this was the closest beach to where I was staying so hoped it would be a good location. Luckily it was. I noticed the ripples in the sand and that when a wave washes over them, it gave the ripples even more of a 3D appearance. Combined with the reflection off the wet sand it made for a good composition. I'm pretty sure not long after this shot I got wet feet from the incoming waves but I really didn't have a care in the world at this point, just enjoyed capturing this magnificent sunrise.

Wet feet? who cares look at what you captured, wow, I see what you mean about 3D effect, that is amazing. The colour in the sky looks spectacular and the silhouette looks just as impressive, great shot.
