First-Order Fresnel Lens

First-Order Fresnel Lens

Seguin Island Light, positioned high atop Seguin Island off the mouth of the Kennebec River in Maine, was selected as one of the few lighthouses in the country to receive the largest type of Fresnel Lens. The caretakers were kind enough to take us up in the light tower, where I shot this image.

Seguin Island Light

Seguin Island Light

One of the most spectacular places I've ever visited along the Maine coast, Seguin Island is a mile long, 1/3-mile wide, and about 200 feet tall. There's a small beach to land on, a steep trail up to the light, and friendly caretakers during the summer to show you around the museum and tower.

Crane Beach/Castle Neck

Crane Beach/Castle Neck

I keep trying to get a great dune photo at Crane Beach, and this may be my best effort yet. I'll keep trying, however, because the light wasn't as good as I'd like it to be. Essex, Mass.

Before the Clouds Rolled In

Before the Clouds Rolled In

I shot this literally seconds before the clouds rolled up from the valley and brought a combination of partial overcast and partial in-the-clouds for the rest of the day. But it was a great morning to shoot on Mount Washington!
