Henry having a scratch

The herons are a widespread family with a cosmopolitan distribution. They exist on all continents except Antarctica, and are present in most habitats except the coldest extremes of the Arctic.
The herons and bitterns are carnivorous. The members of this family are mostly associated with wetlands and water, and feed on a variety of live aquatic prey. The diet includes a wide variety of aquatic animals, including fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic insects.

Goldcrest..... "King of Birds"

Goldcrest..... "King of Birds"

The Goldcrest is the smallest European bird, I seen movement in a coniferous tree and it was so far away that I never even knew what it was, when I got home, I was surprised to see I had a Goldcrest, Unfortunately the next day I returned to the same spot alas they or it had moved on.
In European folklore this was considered "king of the birds" . This kinglet has greenish upper-parts, whitish under-parts, and has two white wingbars. It has a plain face contrasting black irises and a bright head crest, orange in the male and yellow in the female.
The Goldcrest breeds in coniferous woodland and gardens, building its compact, three-layered nest on a tree branch. Ten to twelve eggs are incubated by the female alone, and the chicks are fed by both parents.
Not the best ever photograph but it is a keeper.
