deep fried cheeseburger

obligatory slice of healthiness?
don't forget, in the eighties, reagan deemed ketchup to be a vegetable so that it could be counted as a serving of the daily food group in school lunches.
okay, according to that query, not reagan, sorry, but the us department of agriculture and "mid-level reaganauts" for subsidized school lunches. simple, no. true, yes. "deem"=opinion, not fact
deep fried cheeseburger by chotda.
when i saw this on the menu, i thought they meant that the burger patties were breaded and deep fried, japanese style. but no, it's a fully formed and cooked double cheeseburger that was dipped in an egg wash, then breaded in panko crumbs. i also thought, "dang, only on guam" but apparently it's a staple of state fairs all over the mainland.

for bunch of pants, who reminded me of its existence.

hi auntnanny, roboppy, sugarfreak, serge, lola, renata--this was definitely an experience. maybe not to be repeated, but memorable nonetheless!

pieman--it seems they've no compunction about deep-frying an item so unnecessarily, but to actually deep-fry a potato?? the horror!

hi bert--it was a lunch special at sam choy's. i thought sam thought it up, but i guess the county fairs beat him to it.

hi bunch and frances--it tasted okay. i don't know how necessary the bread crumb coating is, it doesn't keep it any hotter, moister or any neater than a regular hamburger. i think it's actually detrimental because they've got to make the burger condiments a little dryer than normal to keep all the gunk from oozing out.

leff, you are too funny. i don't know if there is any way to make this healthier, even if it was deep-fried in canola oil!

rather salty, it was rather scary. really, that's exactly what the breading did--just added random calories and random bulk.

Actually, I'm thinking they just should have breaded the whole dish, and thrown it in the fryer. I mean, if you're gonna do it, then do it big!

rather salty, it does seem like a waste of excess calories, doesn't it?

esther, what a frightening yet supremely intriguing idea. maybe i could wrap up the ketchup in some sort of gelatin or edible rice paper sleeve, bread and deep-fry that. if you wanted more ketchup, all you'd have to do is bite open the top and pour it on!

this reminds me of 'deep fried pizza' and 'deep fried Mars bars' which they serve in some fish & chip shops here in england.

i haven't witnessed or sampled these 'delicacies' in person, they seem to be only available in the north and Scotland.

adihle99, ha! no, amazingly not. apparently the whole deep-fried cheeseburger originated at the arizona county state fair. apparently AZ's fair is like, the vanguard of All Things Fried--if no one's thought of frying it, they have or they will, and the rest will wallow :P

alexander, i had no idea!
