Now that is what I call:

    a) supremely anal retentive; and
    b) incredibly cool.

hello mam'zelle, this is at least a decade's worth of books....i only really recommend keeping so many if you have room. i think i am coming close to my limit!

hello huro, . Y.u.m.!*, littlemonster, marie and bhumi! ah well. it is lovely to look at :)

hello jeanne! normally i don't care, but $10k as prize money made me care a teensy bit (laughing) oh well. i would spend it all on books and then where would i be? (on a giant pile!!!)

pixelkitty, it *is* supremely anal retentive. you have no idea how many times i've switched around the aqua books....

jodi, it's holding up well, isn't it?

your entry beats out everything else in that contest. i seriously seriously love that room. bookshelves aside, i love your cushions and the flowers. it's just such a bright and cheerful room...it's perfect!

Your room would clearly win over anything that Domino has ever published - that's why they didn't consider you. Ack - this is so wonderful. It gives me a serious need to go buy books. Thanks for sharing your creative and colorful endeavor.

oh wow! you should have entered this to the apartmentherapy.com colour contest. very cool!

  23. chotda (68 months ago | reply)

anahata, i'm *very* curious to see what entries didn't make it to the galleries. will you and your friends post the photos? i'll bet i'd love them.

pixellated, i thought there were some amazing rooms in there...that weren't picked as finalists. the only problem i have with the finalists is that some of them seem very similar to me. which is probably why i'm not a judge! :)

happythings, isn't green kitchen's collection beautiful? i love the colours of those vintage books.

bunchofpants, yay for free stuff! :D wait 'til i get bored and start rearranging the books again....

copyright and opal, try it with yours! no matter how few books it still works out well....

barbara, my contest days are ovah!!!

it didn't get chosen because most things in your room are not new, so they cannot pimp their advertisers or retailers.

I love the rug and the dog too. oh yes and your decorating sensibilities of course!

Wow. This is AMAZING. I wish I had a room like that for books, too bad old houses have very little wall space... this is just so gorgeous... but tellme, did you go out and buy these books just for the wall ;) ? haha ok sorry, it's just WOW they all look like they're the same books.. I have a lot but I guess the older books aren't in pretty colors as these are...hmm..

That competition was clearly rigged. Or the staff was just jealous that they didn't come up with this. It is ASTOUNDING. I am totally going crib this idea for my children's huge book collection, they will love it.

hallo! so many comments, thank you everyone. this can be achieved anywhere, as long as there's books and someplace to keep them. i hope anybody who tries this leaves a comment and a link to the photo of your effort!

  47. jaycee05 (66 months ago | reply)

You read Janet Evanovich! Hehehe...This is my dream reading room too!

  48. chotda (66 months ago | reply)

i do! the stephanie plum books are so easy to read, a weekend of entertainment.

  49. dreamsrey (66 months ago | reply)

amazing! what genre of literary works do you like? i can't tell if most of the books are paperback or not.... what is your absolute favorite out of the bunch?

  50. chotda (66 months ago | reply)

dreamsrey, i'll read almost anything. admittedly, most of the brightly coloured books are popular fiction from 1970s-present, but i'll read anything...except poetry. i would say it's a 40% hardback to 60% paperback ratio.

    favourite what?
